Jordan's dream job

1. Since I want to be a photographer, my dream job would be to make a name for myself as a fashion photographer and work for Vogue. I have some experience with fashion photography with the Little Red Book and I really love portrait photography. I want to be one of those photographers that they bring on to America's Next Top Model and everyone is just in awe to work with. I want to be the photographer that every fashion magazine wants to get to shoot their cover photo.

2. My second dream job would to become a famous sports photographer. I got really into shooting sports when I was the editor of my yearbook and I love the fast pace and how you never know if you'll get the money shot because you really don't know what will happen in the game. Its invigorating and I love it.

Sarah Osbourne

Okay, here it goes...

My first photo is from Time magazine (online). It is a photo from the rioting in Egypt. The reason I like it is the angle of the photo, and I think it captures the severity of the situation going on in the country. It is one thing to read the numerous articles about what is happening, but I believe a photo is much more moving and personal.

This is a photo from the Time magazine website, as well. It is a photo of an artist by the name of Seth Kirby viewing his own artwork at an exhibition. I love the photo because I think it would be extremely challenging to capture, and I think it makes an interesting composition. I also think it is meaningful that the photographer could capture an artist admiring his own work in a unique manner.

This photo shows a seagull covered in oil after an oil rig collapsed. It is from Time magazine online, as well. This photo is admirable to me because I think it is very simple, yet has a huge impact. Many people were outraged at the oil spill, and the environmental damage resulting in this oil spill was horrific. I think this photo does a wonderful job of capturing this.

The end!!

Drew Davis's Favorite Photos

My friend James Roh is an amazing photographer who is about to graduate from Ohio University. He does profile pieces on social issues taking place throughout Ohio and predominately uses photos to tell stories of the people affected by the issue he's discussing. These particular photos are from a piece he did on homelessness in Ohio. He followed a couple, Del and Bev (pictured at the bottom), that recently became homeless in August of 2008 after battling substance abuse and a tough economy. He documented their struggle to rebuild their lives completely sober. I thought the photography was beautiful and revealing. He even captured them dumpster diving for food. He more recently did a piece on strippers, which also surprisingly captured really beautiful moments. You can check out more of his stuff (including the stripper photos - which I didn't know if I could include on this blog) at Jame's blog.

Hey Y'all!

I'm Jordan Beaman and I'm a magazines major with an emphasis on photojournalism.

I was born in Milwaukee, WI but I was raised in the suburbs of Dallas, TX.

I have an amazing family that is slowly following me to Georgia. I have two older siblings who I look up to in every way. My dad is the foundation of our family and he takes care of me more than I could every imagine. I had the most amazing momma. Unfortunately, she passed away two years ago. She was in a para-sailing accident when I was a freshman and it has turned my world upside down. But I am proudly the spitting image of her.

I also have two dogs that are my babies and I absolutely adore them. I wish that I could keep them here in Athens but they would go insane in my apartment.

I work at the Office of Special Events on north campus. Basically, we plan all the events for the president of the University. Its a great job and it has made me more interested in event planning. I am also the secretary of Alpha Omega, the on campus organization for my campus ministry.

My greatest love in life is photography. I am absolutely obsessed and my friends make fun of me all the time for how many albums on facebook I have. They have all actually stopped taking their cameras anywhere. I also have a blog to display my photography, which you can check out if you feel so inclined.

Some other things I'm interested in are baking, football and movies. Here's why. If this whole journalism thing doesn't work out for me, I will most likely open up a bakery with my sister. Growing up in Texas, every one was obsessed with football, high school, college or pro. I can't remember a fall weekend that we didn't watch football. College football is my favorite to watch and I have been cheering on the Dawgs since I was born. Most of the conversations that we have in my family are consumed with movie quotes.

I had an amazing opportunity this summer to study abroad in Italy for ten weeks with the Lamar Dodd program in Cortona. I was able to take two photography classes. Here's my blog from my summer where you can read about my whole experience.

Arrivederci!
